tony_craig
Is there a preferred pattern that I might use to see if my camera needs any adjustments? A colleague suggested a soft focus check.
bobatkins
You can try this one - http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/technical/focus_testing.html Whatever test you use, be aware that the AF zones aren't always completey aligned with the viewfinder markings and may extend slightly outside the indicated area, so make sure that there's nothing around the focus point that the camera could be confused by and that there's only one point or line within the focus area and that line runs across the frame so all parts of it are at the same distance from the camera. You can also try this test - http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/technical/lens_sharpness.html and compare your image sharpness with the examples shown.
