jgredline
Hi folks. Over the past couple off weeks I have went on a bird hunt with my Son. We bought a couple of books and as we find them he checks them off. I do not recall a time when we have had so much fun. Most of the images where shot with the DA*300 and the Sigma 135-400 lens.... <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9730/birdhunt23ms5.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/5787/birdhunt25zw0.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/5110/birdhunt22vy0.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6161/birdhunt21ru7.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/7942/birdhunt20tz2.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/4780/birdhunt19ot6.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4732/birdhunt18dn3.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/5789/birdhunt17kz7.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/470/birdhunt16sw4.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3707/birdhunt15mz3.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/1116/birdhunt14ku1.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7811/birdhunt13kv8.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2419/birdhunt12bw1.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/2589/birdhunt11bg8.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/8779/birdhunt10uq5.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/1399/birdhunt9iz5.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8174/birdhunt8ic0.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4868/birdhunt6ki7.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/1551/birdhunt5ix9.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2561/birdhunt4ud7.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4948/birdhunt3pt3.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5433/birdhunt2yw3.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/2373/birdhunt1mb0.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/4226/birdhunthc4.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8986/birdhunt24ii8.jpg' border='0'/></a>
jgredline
Boy, this new website really distorts the images....I guess I will start preparing images just for this site. ''sigh''
cory_zerkee
I noticed it distorts the pics if they are too large when you link them. I had the same problem and tried posting smaller pics and the problem went away.
dorus
I'm sure you had a great field-trip with your son. Something I should do with my boy (9) too ! What's the distortion that you mention ? I Post my links at 900 pixels at 400kb and they seem allright to me. I noticed on you bird pics here that the colors are to harsh (except on the last), I wonder what caused that ? personalphotos
It looks like a nice series Javier but the site doesn't do pictures much justice these days. It's never been a 'picture friendly' site but it's gotten worse IMO. The POTW thread pictures with captions are all so small, they are tough to see much detail. Odd that you're still using ImageShack but there is no separation between the shots now either. I'm assuming the colours were more 'normal' and no halos around the birds as I see here. Maybe you could post shots as thumbnails from IS and we can see the image hosted from there. I really like the shot of your son is great and this sounds like a great activity. Even if the shots didn't turn out great (I bet they are good though), this is something he'll remember for a long time to come.
hagar
That must have a great trip Javier.. Cute kid! It is a wonderful experience for him, and an early lesson in learning to love and respect nature. Would that more dads spent as much time with their kids. I agree with O Shiva.. the colors seem harsh and oversaturated, which is probably the result of the site software compressing the photo to fit. andrewg_ny
Javier, no doubt that was a fun trip; looks like you have some nice subjects available and you took advantage with some nice captures & compositions. Someday I'd also like to pick up a bird field guide. I'm not sure what distortion you're referring to--I guess what you're seeing is your already downsized files (1000px wide) being crudely downsized further by the web browser (to 700px wide). Best bet is to avoid this by linking here such that the image's actual size is displayed here. Also bear in mind that done in this way, viewers are downloading the full-size 1000px image so there's no savings in page load speed. I don't know whether this is something you're doing in post-processing or due to imageshack (some hosts like flickr may do some additional processing like sharpening on uploaded pictures, but this seems beyond what is likely) but I'm experiencing considerable retina burn on several of these images. Lots of severe purples & greens. I suspect the harshness to my eyes is exacerbated by the jaggies caused by the aforementioned downsizing. The pictures of your son look fine but some of the others (birdhunt13kv8 is an example) probably don't look like you had intended. I'm wondering if your monitor is out-of-calibration? jgredline
Folks, Thanks for the comments. As has been noted, the distortions I was refering to was / is the jagged edges or halos around the subjects and the colors...Oh my goodness, they are awful...The originals look pretty good...I downloaded some from image shack and it is Image shack that took and distorted them... even my ducks are awful. ''sigh''... As for these trips, though, I really enjoy the time with my son. I wish I could get my daughter to come. O Shiva, my boy is 8 soon to be nine...Take your boy and have a blast. Have his young eyes do the looking. :) Haig, Yes, I have always taught my kids about taking care of what little we have left in terms of Nature... Andrew, Get yourself a bird book and you will appreciate the birds you shoot even more :) Ok, I need to go and work on some of these images and give flicker a try... I will delete some of these pictures for now until I figure out what happened to them exactly.
jgredline
I just deleted most of the images. I also noticed that image shack has ''updated'' some stuff, so let me see what they ''updated'' sigh...
jgredline
OK, let me see if this works. <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/9073/herons1ga7.jpg' border='0'/></a>
jgredline
Yep, that works. I think I will start all over again since I can't edit anything in this thread. I will start again when I get home. Right now I have bills to pay, hence work calls.

hagar
Ok, that's much better Javier.. your heron is beautiful.. and normal looking ! LOL. And Duane.. you are not supposed to post bird dog pictures on the same page as all these birds.. I think he grabbed a whole bunch of them already.. they are all gone! lol. I love your swan in the grass by the way..
