correct_exposure
Hello all..I currently use a 5D and have decided on using a film body as backup. What are users impressions of the 1v? I have also thought about the Leica M7 and M8 (which is digital) b/c of the always bright viewfinder no matter what lens is attached and the size. Size is really the reason I have ruled out a used 1ds series even though it has the features I like. I do street and family pics.
amancay_maahs
how does a film body "back up" a 5D? if $ and size/weight is a factor... why not a 30-20-10D or even a rebel!?
miklosphoto
I would not call it a back-up, it is a very good other format option. The only problem is that as soon as you start using the 1V you will want to own a 1D as well. And it is not a criticism of the 5D but the greatness of 1V. amancay_maahs
huge difference between a "back up" and an "alternate" or "second body"... makes a bit more sense now.
jeffrey_blake_adams
I LOVE my old 1vHS, if you can shoot chrome and have prints/scans made at processing. I used imagexperts in LA and Pictage when I still used film. I haven't shot w my 1vHS for years, but can't bring myself to part w it, it made me so much money. jeffrey_blake_adams
Oh, as for a backup? I use another 5d, and also use two 40d's so I have a choice when it comes to the reach. My 100400IS usually lives on my 40d for ceremony and long reach emotion images during teh reception, whilst my 5d does the formals and portraiture. correct_exposure
Maybe second body is a more appropriate term. My dad pulled out some old negatives from the '60's and we had them developed. With today's technology, they turned out great. I started thinking that the weather sealed 1v for 700 bucks and as cheap as film is with development, it's something to look into. My 5D is option one for now (with low light) :)
fotograf
The 1V is Canon's best film camera. It has better metering than the EOS 3. Very rugged body that will never fail you. Just turn it on, and let it fire.
barryh
My 1VHS sits unused in a camera bag. If I ever shoot film again, it would be my first choice. I'm convinced I got shots with that camera that I wouldn't have with any other body. Even now, just thinking about it brings back fond memories. Andy Collins
The 1v is one of the greatest cameras ever, film or digital. If you use it though, you won't want any dslr other than a 1-series. If you can get one, do so just to experience using it.
