kristina hill
I just bought a Lexar Pro 4G 133x memory card. Straight out of the box, the camera gave me a CF Error, and said the card was not formatted to the camera. When I try to format the card, I get another error message stating the card cannot be formatted to the camera. The BH employee who sold me the card recommended it for my camera, but I see no compatibility chart on the instructions. Could it be a faulty card or is it not compatible to a 5D? Has anyone had an experience similar/is there anything that can be done to correct the formatting error? Thanks! Kristina
peter_daalder
According to this listing, there should be no issue about compatibility.
digitmstr
Does it have a write protect switch? Have you tried placing the CF card in a reader and accessing through your computer? Maybe it's corrupted or defective...
kristina hill
It doesn't have a write/protect switch. I put it in my card reader and it said that it was unrecognizeable. It asked to either "eject" or "initialize". I clicked 'initialize' and it brought up a screen where I could either do 'disc first aid' ' erase' 'partition' 'RAID' or 'restore'. I am now lost :)
rhaytana__tim_adams_
I vote for a likely-to-be-defective card. I'm assuming here that you've never had problems formatting other CF cards in this camera -- and can rule out the camera itself as the culprit. PuppyDigs
I use a 4GB Extreme III CF in my 5D with no problem. I know it's a different make but sounds like you got a bum card. It really should work once formatted for the camera. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
zafar1
There should really no issue with using any CF card in any 5D (or any other DSLR). One thing you can try to do is insert it in your USB card reader, and instead of initializing try to format. If that fails, take it back to BH. It is certainly defective. colinsouthern
Although it shouldn't make any difference, over the years (for some reason) Lexar seems to be associated more with Nikon, and Sandisk more with Canon. Not sure why, but "take what you want to out of it" Cheers, Colin photo.net/photos/colinsouthern
savagesax
I agree with Colin. For some reason in past years Lexar had some issues with Canon, but then Lexar did some changes around 2 years ago and that made a big difference. Regardless of Lexar's updates to their CF cards, it put the fear of God in me, because some of these people had weddings on the cards! You can do a search and see some of the comments. At this stage I still predominately use SanDisk cards with Canon cameras.
thomas_hardy1
I've been using 2 of the same cards without any problems for about 10 months in a Canon 20D and 400D. Well, you know how electronic things can be.
