D80 + SB800 = Err?!?!?

Just wondering if I was the only one...

Was shooting a family outdoors (sounds bad doesn't it!) and my D80 stalled and

read Err. I tried everything I could think of, different modes, disconnecting

and reconnecting different lenses, disconnecting and reconnecting battery pack,

changing memory cards--everything. All the manual told me to do was 'push the

shutter' and if that didn't work (which it didn't) take it to a retailer...

well, I finally got to the flash (sb800) and turned it off, disconnected it,

reconnected it and turned it back on and everything was well! I've used the

camera a lot since then with no ill effects, but I have my first 'real wedding'

in July and this camera is my primary and I'm scared to death that it's going

to stall again and my backup is our older Nikon SLR 35mm (I know, there's

nothing wrong with 'older' but I love digital!) and I just can't afford to buy

another new digital (this one's less than a month old!)...

Has this ever happened with anyone else?

Thanks in Advance!

Lybby,

Could be a poor contact betweeen the flash and the camera. Be sure you lock the flash when is mounted turnig the little key to the right.

And try to clean the flash and camera contacts.

I do know if the flash batteries are in good state, and reset the SB800 to factory settings, check it too.

If the ERR message is still appearing, well, take the camera and flash to service.
