martin_leitsch
hi there, on the canon homepage they say the 5d is compatible with MAC osx 10.4.1....does that mean it is NOT compatible with panther/10.5 ? or is there any upgrade included if i buy a new 5d body? and i was wondering what flahdisk suits the 5d best... wanna go for 8gb and have heared that the sandisk extreme IV are "too fast" for the 5d that the camera can only handle up to 22mb/s. and is there any reason why i wouldn't buy a cheap flahdisk instead of the more xpensive one (if it has the same speed) cheers, martin
m_barbu1
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=61147 As for your latter question, just because the camera can't use all the speed, doesn't mean your card reader also can't. I'd get the faster card.
eric_l._tillman
Hi, Martin At this time there seem to be a few glitches when using Leopard and a tethered 5D, but other than that it works just like 10.4+. As to the compactflash card, it is not that the Extreme 4 cards are "too fast"- the 5D's transfer rate is just slower than the card's max speed - no sense paying for extra speed you can't benefit from - though the Extreme 4 cards will work just fine. Just make sure you're using the latest Canon apps (EOS Utility, DPP) and all is well. When the 5D originally shipped Tiger was all the rage. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
g dan mitchell
With the fast cards, you really have to ask how much you gain on the card read time and at what cost. I suppose if you are working on super tight ("gotta have it NOW") deadlines and downloading a ton of photos every day it might be worth it. For my part, I put the cards in a USB reader and check my email while they load... The Mac OS 10.4.1 business is probably simply a recommended minimum. Spearhead
is there any reason why i wouldn't buy a cheap flahdisk instead of the more xpensive one (if it has the same speed)
No. The change in download time is minimal, and most people never come close to filling their camera buffer in normal shooting. The high speed is a great way for memory card makers to up their average price, and unless you're a sports or pj pro, that's about all it does.
