IR Film in Folders

Has anyone tried IR film in 50's vintage folders? I'm sure the metal ones are

fine bodywise and that the plastic ones might be suspect, but mostly I'm

concerned about fogging through the bellows.

I used to wonder about that as well - but old Kodak handbooks from the '40s used to tout the virtues of IR film for pictoral use, and never included any sort of warning about using it in folding cameras - or box cameras, for that matter. Also, for what it's worth, Arthur Fellig used to shoot IR in a Speed Graphic back in the '50s, so I can't imagine there would be any problems...

The only problem might be when opening the red window to advance to your next frame. However I have heard that the backing paper is more IR proof than a 35mm film cassette. I plan to try some out in my Nettar this spring and will post results here.

I routinely use Konica IR film in my Mamiya 6 folder. Here is an example of what it can do. I'm fortunate in that I was able to pick up a red filter designed for this camera. Before I got it, however, I simply fixed a larger filter to the lens with blu tak.<div></div>

Beautiful shot, Jonathan. I am happy to report that, after being assured by the responses that it would work, I picked up a Series V filter holder for my Kodak 66 and a Series V 89B IR filter from Harrison and Harrison and shot a test roll of Ilford 200 SFX. Worked great. I did cover the red window when not winding with a flap of gaffers tape but I could see no sign of any problem with it on the film. Next trial is Efke 820c.
