CLA quite expensive; what alternative ??

Following up on my previous thread, I learned that a CLA is quite expensive for

the focotar, so I was thinking of buying a new enlarger lens. The question is

simple; which of the below 3 and why?

 

Rodenstock (NON- APO ) Rodagon 1:2.8/50

Schneider Componar S 2.8/50

Nikon EL Nikkor 50 2.8/50

You mean a Componon S 2.8/50 The Componar is a f4.

Clean the Focotar. I have not found a Schneider or Rodenstock that matched it except my 45mm APO SChneider and that will not work well on a condenser machine except stopped to 11. It works fine on a diffusion enlarger and I have several of each. a 50 mm Schneider APO is probably a close scond, but it needs to be APO.

 

My color pics just popped when I got the first Focotar and I had no control over the contrast of the process way back when.

The El-Nikkor 50/2.8 N (last version) will beat any Focotars.

 

The Schneider APO-Componon 45mm is in a different class altogether.

If you think cleaning the Focotar is too expensive, get the EL-Nikkor 50 2.8. It was the best

enlarging lens I've ever used.
