MTC Photography
I am considering buying a Canon 5D + adapter to mount Elmarit R 19mm/2.8. I am not sure whether this approach has any dimension problem. (I vague remembersome one mentioned tha R19m ver 2 need to be shaved.) How is the performance of Elmarit R19 on Canon 5d vs on a Leica R film camera ? From my own experience, picture taken with Kodacolor 200 with Elmarit R19 seemsa bit grainy. stuart_richardson
Grain comes from the film, not the lens. The R 19mm is a very sharp lens. Isn't version 1 a f/3.5 lens? I though only version 2 was a 2.8.
canfred
Both version I & II Elmarit 19mm are f2.8the first version has rather high vignetting at 2.5 stops propably not so good on a DSLR.
gunnar_norden
I have the v1 + 5D and the performance is excellent.
andy_piper2
Stuart: it's the R 15MM that began as an f/3.5 (Zeiss) and changed to f/2.8 (Schneider) when redesigned. The 19 was f/2.8 from the beginning.
donald_weston1
are there any mods needed for the 19mm R lens on a 5D??? Recall some lenses require modification, while others don't...Thanks...
gunnar_norden
Version 1 works without mod but I think version 2 needs to be modified.
seth_honeyman
The 19MM Version 1 works on the 1Ds series and the 5D without modification. I haven't noticed any particularly high vignetting although there is noticeable chromatic aberration in high contrast situations. I will try and post a picture which shows this. Overall, I think the lens is excellent - very high resolution at moderate apertures and great colors. Its probably not as good as the v2 but is a LOT less money if you can find it. seth_honeyman
Since I can't get the file size down enough to fit the upload requiremens, I'll post another link which gives a better feel for the color and sharpness the lens produces. (Don't worry about the softness on the train - it was coming through at over 100 MPH)
MTC Photography
Seth, thanks for the v1 19mm+ Canon 5D pictures. the pictures looks good, not much vignetting. I bought an Elmarit R19 v1 and an EOS to Leica adapter, still eyeing a Canon 5D.
Now since Canon 5D Mk II is on the market for a while, I am wondering does the Elmarit 19mm v1 also fits the Canon 5D mk II without modification ? Or it fits the 5D only. I don't
want to shave anything, because I still want to use the Elmarit R19 on my R4, R5,RE
