Troll
Series 5.5 (very strange, I know nothing else that uses them). The main advantage to Minolta's Rokkor version is that it takes standard screw-in filters (40.5mm, if I remember correctly).
volker_hopf
I use 39mm filters with the 40mm Summicron and 40.5mm with the 40mm Rokkor. The 39mm does not srew in completely but it works ok.
raymond_tai
The thread of an E39 filter will catch enough so it'll work. I need an UV/IR filter for it and the 39mm worked well enough.
alfred_alfred
Series 5.5?? what size is that? I heard it needs the screw-in rubber hood to hold the filters. Which i have. A normal 39mm...sounds like you fellows force it in. Wouldn't that damage the screw-threading? Or worse, it drop off suddenly and ..
raymond_tai
The 39mm filter will catch and you can screw in about half of a turn. You can then give it a little more so it'll lock in but you don't want to force it. Try to use a B+W filter because it has the brass rim instead of the cheaper aluminum rimmed filters. ronald_moravec1
It is 39 mm but .75 pitch instead of the common .5 thread per mm pitch. Ser 5.5 will fit in the lens shade.
vincenzo_maielli
The 5.5 filter size correspond to 39x0,75 mm. The adapter ring B+W 40,5-39x0.75 is now discontinued. Contact a photographic artisan to made a correct adapter ring. Ciao.
andyaitken
You can perhaps find used a Leica Series 5.5 11251 adapter ring (usually pretty cheap as no-one seems to know what they're for) then pop the glass out of a 39mm filter of your choice and the 11251 holds it in place as well as acting like a kind of mini lenshood. Works great. Looks "right" too.
jimsimmons
The 5.5 filter is held in place by the rubber lens hood, Alfred. Unscrew the lens hood, drop in the filter (it does not have threads), then screw the hood down on top of it. But I'm in the 39mm camp these days. My 5.5 UV filter "wore out" long long ago, as did the flex on my rubber hood. So now I have a 39mm B+W filter screwed into the lens (a half turn secures it; it's safe to do), and what's left of the hood screwed into the filter. Sounds funky, but the part of the hood that remains after the rubber hood gets torn off actually makes the perfect hood length when it's attached to a 39mm filter. Sounds cludgy, but it's a very sturdy and workable solution.
