thomas_horan
I`ve purchased several Canon RS-80N3`s over the years for different models of cameras. Now I`ve got one with an octagonal rubber end with a chrome knurled ring at the tip with a round hole. This one is different from my other one, and dosen`t fit on a 30D. Can anyone tell me the body this fits? Thanks
jason_hall4
Sounds like a major screw up to me. Where did you buy it? Are you sure it is made by canon? Jason

mark u
Perhaps it is a T3 rather than N3 remote?

mark u
Looks like someone modified it to allow a stereo extension lead to be used - but didn't supply you with the tail that would have a stereo jack on one end (which would plug in to the socket), and the regular N3 connector on the other. thomas_horan
Thanks Mark, This one may have come with a purchase of camera equipment I recently made. Maybe it is an extension? It dosen`t look like it was cut or modified although it obviously was.I don`t have any other parts. So this one is useless.
mark u
It could be usable as an extendable E3 remote with the addition of a stereo extension lead and a stereo 3.5mm jack to 2.5mm jack converter - all of which can be bought at an electronics store. Otherwise you have to source an N3 type connector on a flylead from somewhere.
jim_karthauser
I hacked my TC 80N3 in this way so that I could use it with my old 350D (Xt), using this method http://www.camerahacker.com/Canon_Accessory/N3_E3_Convert.php I will upload a photo of my connectors too.Now I have E3 connectors and N3 for both bodies. On the left is one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-5-2-5mm-to-3-5mm-headphone-adapter-fits-3-5-mm-jack_W0QQitemZ130208948264QQihZ003QQcategoryZ112529QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem In the middle is my custom lead (N3 that was spare from cutting the cable on one end and 3.5mm male stereo jack on the other) On the right is the remote unit itelf with 3.5mm stereo female socket for the two adapters. With this setup I have built a bridge 10m extension lead with the appropriate 3.5mm stereo connectors on each end. If you wish to use your N3 remote on a body, you will either need to get hold of an N3 plug (quite difficult!), or wire up an E3 to use on a body in the Xt/Xti/Xsi range. This will do the trick http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-5-2-5mm-to-3-5mm-headphone-adapter-fits-3-5-mm-jack_W0QQitemZ130208948264QQihZ003QQcategoryZ112529QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Hope that this helps. jim_karthauser
Did you send them a photo of the remote, because that is definitely a hack like mine. It it was manufactured that way then it wouldn't be a N3 remote as N3 is the name of the plug. Don't know what they're thinkin of!
