Joly color camera and the process

Recommended Posts

I need to do some research on the subject item. I have gone through the

wiki, google and ask websites. I get basically the same information. I need to

find the exact details on the construction of the original JOLY color camera

and the process. Please feel free to email me whatever you can share. I have

less than one week to get it done. I would also like to build one out of

cardboard if I could.

Thank you very much!

The 1894 Joly process used a standard plate camera. The basis of the process is a screen of fine lines ruled in colour placed over a monochrome plate to both take and view the plate after reversal development (the same concept as the more sucessful Autochrome) See if your library has a copy of Colour Photography, the first 100 years by Brian Coe (ISBN 0 904069 24 9) which goes through this process.

Doing a bit more research suggests that the wikipedia entry is at conflict with the reference I gave you. As the Brian Coe book has a copy of an advertisement for the process, and an amateur example of its use, I am inclined to doubt the statement in the wiki entry that it was never used commercially, but it merits a closer look to make certain.
