mark_pierlot
Does anyone know how the 1971 FD 200mm f/4 SC compares to the 1973 200/4 SSC? The optical formaula appears to be the same, but I'm wondering whether the additional coating on the later lens gives it better correction. egoldste
Coatings have no effect on correction of lens aberrations... they improve transmission across a broader spectrum and reduce flare.
User_502260
I have both of these lenses. My interest in the earlier FD lens was more for collecting than for using. In backlit situations the older lens has much more flare so I would recommend the SSC lens if you have a choice. In lighting situations that are not so challenging both lenses are about the same.
