juan_bonet
I've bought a 35mm f:2 Summicron pre asph. and it have the square hood. Are there any cap for the front of this square hood?
jtdnyc
Unfortunately, Leica didn't make a cap for the hood of the 35 Cron pre-ASPH. I never found a suitable third-party hood cap, either. When I needed to protect the lens (or to protect the rubberized shutter from the sun), I just jammed a rectangle of stiff black paper in the front of the hood. The rectangle was about a quarter inch longer than the opening of the hood, so that I could make a fold and thus have a tab for removing the hood easily. Leica does make a hood cap for the 35 Cron ASPH, but I don't often use mine as it's easy to lose and expensive to replace. Caps for lens hoods is not Leica's strong suit. james mitchell dc
The square hood that fits the 4th gen. 'cron has a flat cap. The hood is 12524, and the cap is 14043. They cost about $20 or so and can be found often at Popflash. The cap falls off very easily, and I only put mine on when I'm packing the lens for travel. juan_bonet
Ok James, the hood that I have is the 12524, then I must look for the 14043 cap. Thank you very much!
mpo
Better than that. Old, pre-asph, square hood 12524 uses 14043 cap. Present hood, for the asph, is 12526 but it uses the same 14043 cap. So, you can buy the cap of the current version and will fit OK (in fact, it holds a little better than the older version). Just the cap! I don't know about the hood... james mitchell dc
Marcelo, that's the exact same cap I suggested. You're right. When new, it definitely holds better--more rubbery, stickier.
mpo
Yes James, you are absolutely right. What I was trying to highlight is that 14043 is the current cap, easy to find brand new, not an old discontinued model as the hood itself.
jtdnyc
Wow. I purchased by pre-ASPH Cron in 1985. At that point no cap was available for the square hood. Apparently one did become available. I stand corrected and apologize for offering what apparently is misinformation. Anyone know when the cap was added to the catalogue?
david j.lee
Juan, save yourself time and money by don't buying the cap. i have it and it's expensive, useless and easy to lose. belive me.
richard_meyers
Or... Switch to a 12585 round hood and use a Nikon 52mm lens cap to cover the front (fits tightly). Not dust proof because of the vents but protects the shutter curtain nicely.
juan_bonet
Thanks to all!! I've saw that it's really expensive for a simple rubber cap and if you says me that it's easy to lose... I think that I'll not buy it.
