peter_a__nyc_
I would be grateful to know which framelines appear when mounting this lens onthe Hexar RF and Leica M8. Thank you.
james mitchell dc
Peter, I have a 40mm 'cron-C, which I believe is the same lens in design. If unmodified, it will bring up the 50mm framelines on any M-mount camera. Many people have filed down the rangefinder cam to bring up the 35mm lines. But I prefer the 50. I prefer to think outside the lines than within.

raymond_tai
Incidenally I had my 40mm Summicron converted to bring up the 35mm framelines and on the M8 the FOV of the 40mm matches exactly the framelines. I hand coded it as a 35mm Summicron pre asph.
kurt_evers
On the Hexar RF, framelines can be selected manually via a lever on the camera front. (However, there are no lines for 40mm, only 50 and 35.)
peter_a__nyc_
Kurt, you're right, but on the RF (and M Leicas) you have to hold the lever in position; when you let go, it springs back to whatever lens is on the camera. That's why some people modify the lens mount, so that you don't have to hold that lever.
andyaitken
File it. Perfect match for M8 (and I believe the Hex RF too). You end up with a very precise frameline for it at over 1m and it still brings up the 40mm frames on the CL/CLE. No lose scenario (unless you get filings in the helix, that is...) Just noticed Raymond already said this. Oh, well.

Sorry but for the CLE this information is incorrect. With the CL the 40mm framelines are visible all the time so it doesn't effect this camera but with the CLE its the 28mm framelines that are visible all the time and should you file the mount it will no long bring up the 40mm framelines at all and all you will see are the 28mm framelines only. So this this scenario isnt quite a no loose one for CLE's.
andyaitken
Aha, thanks Joel. I thought the CLE also displayed the 40 frame all the time (I've never had a CLE, much to my regret).
joel_matherson
"(I've never had a CLE, much to my regret)." Prices for CLE's are at an all time low. Give one a try, im sure you will be very happy.
