ljd_3
I just purchased the Canon 5D and I'm having trouble mounting my EFS 18-55 canon lenses that came with my digital rebel XT. My canon 70-200 IS 2.8 L lens mounts to either body with no problems but for some reason the 18-55 won't mount. Am I doing something wrong? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks Louis
alex_kaufman
Don't try and mount the EFS lens onto the 5D, it uses a different lens mount. only EF lenses will work
nhut-nguyen
EF-S lenses don't work on Full Frame and 1.3x cameras. They only work on The Rebel Series and the 20D, 30D, 40D
ljd_3
Okay, that's what I needed to know. Thanks
mark u
If you really want to adapt it, here's how: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/efs-10d.html However, note the warnings about the mirror, and be aware that the lens doesn't produce a big enough image circle to cover the sensor of a 5D, so you would get heavy vignetting. adam_gifford
I wouldn't bother adapting it, the 5D mirror is bigger than the 10D in the article, and i doubt having cheap kit lens that vignettes is worth a broken mirror.
bob_osullivan
Buy a new wide-normal zoom worthy of the 5D. A 24-105f4 or 24-70 f2.8 would be approx the same equivilant focal lenght you had with the 18-55. For super wide, the 17-40f4 or 16-35f2.8. mendel_leisk
Louis, one time I absent mindedly tried putting an EF-s 17-85 on my 5D. My son had borrowed my telephoto for a shot, and I was left holding the EF-s lens. Not thinking, I tried to put it on my camera, so I wouldn't have to hold it. Not only did it not fit, it knocked the plastic front portion of the focus screen out of position. Luckily, I was able to just push it back in, touching just the edges. ljd_3
Wow! Thanks for all the great input from everyone. I'm going to buy a new wide angle as soon as I get enough free cash. Picture quality means allot to me and I don't want to screw up my new 5D. I was just looking forward to using the 17mm with the full frame. I will just have to wait.
