tim_hope1
Hi, Firstly, may I apologise for my first post being a problem. Two weeks ago, I purchased a second hand Mamiya RZ kit (Body, old (full stops)110mm f/2.8 lens and 120 back, WLF). It was purchased for long exposures andnight photography. I haven't finished my first roll yet, due to bad weather, but have tried theMirror lock up with a single cable release. I have detailed my steps below, so hopefully someone can correct me if I'm doingsomething wrong: 1.) Wind film on with the lever on the RHS of the body.2.) Screw cable release into side of lens.3.) Press release on body (I'm not using a cable release, but as I understandit, it doesn't matter)4.) Wait a few seconds (As per my other kit)5.) Press Cable release to fire shutter on lens. When I follow the above, at step 3, the mirror moves up as it should, but thetiming on the body appears to start from the moment the mirror moves up. If Iset a 1second exposure, when I press the Body release, 1 second later I can heara "tick". If I then press the cable release, then the shutter operates, but at(I assume) its' mechanical 1/400th setting. Frustratingly, MLU appears to work on Bulb exposures. Is this a body or a lens fault, or operator error? Are the lens and body"talking to each other" properly? timlamey
This appears to be expected behavior. Per the instructions for the latest model of the RZ (ProIID): "After you press the Shutter Release Button on the body for a mirror up shot, release the Shutter within 60 seconds using the Cable Release that is attached to the Lens. It you want to wait more than 60 seconds to release the shutter using the Cable release, the camera will release the Shutter at the maximum speed (1/400 second), regardless of the shutter speed you have set." If you change your MLU process to be sure that you press the Cable Release within 60 seconds of depressing the Shutter Release Button you should get the behavior you desire. tim
tim_hope1
The body does not appear to register that the MLU function is being used on the lens.
If I set an 8 second exposure on the Shutterspeed dial, then press the body release and wait 3 seconds, then press the MLU release, I get a (approx) 5 second exposure.

For exposures over a couple of seconds, I would be happy to use bulb or time exposures, but this represents a problem for 1/30 to 1' exposures and surely is not normal operation?
frankz
I had little experience with an RZ other than I can identify one, but ... Do the lenses work like the RB, in particular, does the rim around the socket on the lens for the cable release have to be reset to a different position to fire fro the lens or does the camera sense this by itself?
