gphoto
I had a little too much time at work today (i work for a camera shop) and founda 55mm f1.2 Nikon that I really wanted to try out. Problem was that the winterhas gotten me severely uninspired and the thought of souping up my own filmholds little appeal. So I looked up a way to mount a Nikon lens on a Canon Body(1d M2 for me). Nothing came back for a diy solution to the problem and the onlyoption seemed to be buying an adapter for $60-200. I decided to take the matterinto my own hands and set about building one. I pulled the back mount off a broken canon lens and the mount off an old NikonEM that we had lying around. I had to file the canon mount down quite a bit toget it to infinity focus (I think) but after that it was just a matter ofgrabbing my trusty blow torch and soldering them together. Voila! I now have a 50$ 55mm f1.2 mounted on my Eos 1D MII and it cost me all of nothing. Pardon the rather bad photos, took them with my cell phone :) If there's any interest I could provide better photos and a better walk through.
bueh
Where do you live? Nikon-EOS adapters can found on that big internet auction site for around €10-15 (with p&p) last time I checked. No need to grab a blow torch
gphoto
that's still 30$ more than I spent ;)
digitmstr
>>that's still 30$ more than I spent ;)<< That is if your time is worth nothing of course :) I have several adapters I bought from EBay for no more than $20.00 ea. a while back. They are for several manual focus lenses I used to have, in various formats (Nikon, M42, Contax, etc...). In the end, I got tired of dealing with the exposure modes limitations and have sold all my MF lenses. But, I did love the look of that lens wide open! Here's a test pix I took with that very Nikon lens...

tommyinca
Sometime F-mount to EOS adpater are as low as $12.95. If you have the time, skill and tools, take an Canon 1.4X MK1 and turn it into a FD-EOS adapter, I bet you can make some money with it (if done right). gphoto
Jesus man, the point is not that I could have bought a lens adapter for 12$ or 20$ or 15 pounds. The point is that I made my own lens adapter and I think it's brilliant! I'm laughing right now but seriously, I don't care if you can buy one cheaper than I made mine. Some of us like to go about things the wrong way and just make our own stuff. If you're someone who likes to shop for everything go ahead. I was simply letting other similarly stupid people like myself that making your is possible. We DIY'ers also stand a good chance of catching things on fire, getting fired for doodling on the job and other very exciting things.
fherd_tiongson
Giles I like your attitude. Some there have hasselblad lenses and buy adapter you use in their DSLR. But you you have a knowledge your using it. MEN YOUR GREAT. your craftmanship cannot paid by others. Even we have a pity dollars in our pocket the enjoyment is the most important. The way you do is the creativity. I have a nikkor lenses and will try to buy Canon and will used all my nikkor lens. I'll be not in DARKSIDE or JEDAI. Some will call me Canonik. No moer Nikon/Canon war. It is the creativity. We'll see ouput than sound. keep on click. fherD
frankz
Giles - Somehow or another those homemade widgets seem to take better photos than the off-the-shelf stuff, don't they. I do the same. By trade, I'm a diemaker and by default I'm my own SK Grimes. Cheaper or not you've got something nobody else has. Feed 'em a fish.
