battery problem solved!!

ok this has been an ongoing dilema for gx680 owners for a long while i have

noticed. I just got my 680-II several months ago and i also finnaly had my

only 2 batteries go dead. im no electronics genius by any stretch but i do

know what i have done has proven to work beautifuly and with noooo problems

whatsoever.

 

this is plain and sweet with no BS.... all i did was solder 2 wires, basicly

the same size wires that are on the inside of a gx battery pack and connect

them to a canon bp-511 battery which will fit most of ther digital slrs (5D, 10-

d etc) to the positive and negative gontacts directly and then i custom cut

the old gx battery pack and mounted the bp511 battery to it and voila! and yes

i soldered directly to the battery i didnt give a shit and no it didnt melt the

plastic. u can figure out ur own way to mount the battery but i dremeled the

battery box and left the prongs and soldered directly to the prongs and the to

the battery and now i can take it on and off and yes i have to desolder it to

recharge it but who cares it cost me all of 10 dollars to buy a soldering gun

as i already had the batteries...

$6 battery extension cable for camera. large battery from old flash(the kind of batt that is on strap.) $2 plug from radioshack. .000005 cents worth of phone cable. solder in cable. route around so pack still useable. cut hole. cable through hole. solder plug on. heat shrink tubing oover to protect. charge battery. connect. use until dead. recharge. repeat.(about $1-2 for heat shrink hose for bargain shoppers, free if you know someone who will give you an inch or so.)

This canon bp-511 seems like an excellent solution ! My two batteries for 680x are dead. I've been seeking for a possibility to use this camera again. Having read your post, I've opened one , got the batteries out and tried to fix the wires to a BP-511A battery (meant for EOS 20d, 10d,... which seems the same as the BP 511), but with no result. I am no electronic genius : do you simply connect (+) and (-) contact of the battery to the respectively same contacts on the camera ? What do you do of the (B) and (D) contact on the left side of the battery ? Any photo would be helpful... Also, another question : the Bp 511 A indicates a 7,4V and 1200mhA : is this harmful to the camera ? Thanks for your help !

I am so glad to have this! My Gx680 has been sitting dead for about 6 months now!! I'm just curious could I pay someone to make me one of these modified batteries from my old one? I'm not so handy when it comes to things like this. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask!!

I just acquired a GX680, seller did give me (FOC) dead battery which has some charge left. I managed to fire off two rolls before it went flat on me.<br>

So I did BP511 hack job on the Fuji battery pack, (being a Canon user too) but what I get on a fully charged BP511 was the orange warning light rather then the green ok light that was when the pack was operational.<br>

Is this the case with you too ?<br>

BTW the shutter does fire and the camera went thru the motion.</p>

<p>I just hacked my camera and used one of these li-ion batteries from ebay.<br />I tested the original ni-cad battery and it shows 9v eventhough the label says 7.4v<br />This chinese battery takes in 12v and puts out 12/9/5v. I chose the 9v output.<br />I opened the side of the camera to reveal the wires leading up to the battery terminals.<br />I then soldered two wire directly to the leads and connected the 9v direct to that.<br />Everything works great.<img
