larfie_barfie
When looking through the viewfinder in my D200 it seems like some things are in focus, but when I look at the pictures on the LCD they are out of focus. this happens with all my lenses which are manual only. Anybody got any ideas?
Matt Laur
You may simply be having a hard time actually seeing what's in focus in your viewfinder. Does the green focus indicator in the viewfinder agree with your eye?
ryan_hamilton
Do some test shots!!! I went through 5 D200 bodies all with focus issues, I finally bought the D300 and haven't had a problem.
michaelging
You have not bumped the diopter on the eye piece have you?
larfie_barfie
The diopter is set all the way in one direction. If I put an AF lens on the camera it focuses just fine. Matt: What do you mean green focus indicator? Ryan: 5 of them? It's probably too late to send mine back.
ShunCheung
Use a longer lens, e.g. 200mm, and try some test shots of subjects at infinity, e.g. distant mountains. Set the focus manually at infinity and see whether things are in focus (1) in the viewfinder and (2) in the final image.
Matt Laur
LB: Look at your owner's manual, where it helps you to identify the things you see in your viewfinder. Near the lower left of the display is an indicator (round) that lights up when the camera thinks that you've got the area in your selected focus point in focus. zippy_doda
The diopter should not be set all the way in one direction unless that is where you need it. Take some test shots or focus on an object and watch the indicator to set your diopter.
jose_angel
Are your images just slightly or way out of focus? With what lenses do you experience this issue, concretely?
alan_olander1664878205
There is a specific way to adjust the viewfinder diopter, not the way zippy mentioned. Rotate the adjustment control until the focus brackets are in sharp focus when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway. (See page 16 of your manual.) sjmurray
DSLRs have seperate adjustments for manual and auto focus. If its not focusing exactly on what you are seeing in the viewfinder, the manual focus adjustment must be off. Send it to Nikon for adjustment. I had to do that for my D80. I think the D300 and D3 have a way to adjust it yourself.
