tonybeach
I will say one thing about the D300 as it compares to the D200 I upgraded from, it is consistently sharper. I cannot explain it in terms of exposure speeds, noise, resolution, or the AA filter; I can't explain it at all, but I see it when I examine images up close, and in particular when something in the image is moving (and it isn't just about the AF either, because shots like those I take at the beach are pre-focused). http://photos.imageevent.com/tonybeach/recentfavorites2/huge/C1_AB05312.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tonybeach/recentfavorites2/huge/C1_AB05575.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tonybeach/recentfavorites2/huge/C1_AB04784.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tonybeach/recentfavorites2/huge/C1_AB04513_v2.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tonybeach/recentfavorites2/huge/_AB01704_2.jpg They're just web images, so ignore the digital artifacts coming from the compression of the files. No crops and no comparison images in this post, I just wanted to share a few images, in part because some people seem to think I never take any. Whether these images are any good or not, I'll leave that to others to judge for themselves -- FWIW, I like them. Please feel free share some of your own favorite D300 images. sjmurray
Very nice compositions and great colors! Being in Minnesota I'm a bit jealous because the weatherman just announced another below zero night or two this weekend.
teng.xiong
Here are some TFP I did for a TEST shoot from last weekend with the D300 - CAUTION NSFW http://www.photosbyteng.com/samples/tia_01.jpg http://www.photosbyteng.com/samples/tia_05.jpg http://www.photosbyteng.com/samples/tia_08.jpg http://www.photosbyteng.com/samples/tia_10.jpg
jose_angel
Wonderful. I would like to have my images as clean as yours. Mine looks fine printed, but ugly on the web. I`m learning. Thanks for sharing.

billy_vanderhoes
As clean and noiseless as they are, they evoke not a pinch of emotion. Maybe technically excellent yet sterile.
bruce_margolis
Anthony, I took my D300 to Corkscrew this past weekend. Coming from a D80, the difference is even more dramatic. AF is very impressive. Actually everything is impressive. This camera is a lot of fun. Here are a couple shots from the weekend. Note these are small crops from much larger photos. Yeah, the 12 MP helps, too....<div></div>

sukumaran_r
Antony, Bruce...your images are simply spectacular. What lenses did each of you use on the D300 ?
rarmstrong
I have been very impressed with the D300. This is a simple example of a red pine bough with the 18-200 VR lens at 1/100, iso 400, f5.6 at 200 mm.<div></div>
tri-x1
Anthony. Are those shots in vivid mode? I' up to my ears in snow now so your shots may seem more saturated because everything Isee is white!
bruce_margolis
"What lenses did each of you use on the D300 ?" The only lens I used was the 80-400mm zoom. Some shots were P mode, some in A mode. Then I switched to S mode just to push the ISO. Some of them were interesting even with ISO 2000. This is a fun camera. cmulcahy
What really impresses me is the Auto WB on the D300. I took these pictures in an Expo Hall. The lighting was weird, I didn't know what it was. The D300's auto WB nailed the colors and lighting perfectly. Anyone hungry for cake? The last one is large to show the detail and pic quality in poor lighting. http://www.photo.net/photo/6922863 http://www.photo.net/photo/6922862 http://www.photo.net/photo/6922861 http://www.photo.net/photo/6922866&size=lg
rarmstrong
Chad, Some nice shots here and I too have been pleased with the white balance and the high quality of the high iso settings which have allowed some shots in low light that I would have never considered with another camera. Enjoy your D300!
cmulcahy
Sorry bad link on that 1st one. Check out this cake. Even the orchid is edible, it's made of fondant. http://www.photo.net/photo/6924657&size=lg
rarmstrong
Chad, Great cake! What were your camera settings for the shot?
cmulcahy
Thanks Richard I didn't actually make any of these cakes, my customers did. That last one was shot in RAW (14), AP mode, ISO 320, 48mm, f/3.2, 1/125s, Pic control: Standard WhiteBalance: Auto No Flash Active D lighting: OFF Sharpening: 3 (default) I did crop this picture just slightly. It wasn't centered and I cut out a persons arm on the top of the pic. Other than that no post processing.
rarmstrong
Chad, Thanks for the answer...was the cake good?
tonybeach
Thank you everyone for your comments and contributions. Hi Sukumaran, The first 4 were all taken with the Nikkor 17-35/2.8 at 17mm (I pretty much use it at that focal range about 90% of time; I'll probably get the 14-24/2.8 and start zooming a little wider sometimes), the last one was taken with the Nikkor 50/1.8 AF-D.
