Hello everyone:

I have the Hassy 503CW system with a wide angle lens and I love it. My question is "could someone give me advice what lens to purchase next for wedding photography." Should I buy the 150 lens or the 100 lens or the 180 lens. Thank you very much. JT

Mr. Tran, You probably need two more lenses, a normal in the 75 to 100 range, as well as a portrait lens. The 180 is generally considered sharper than the 150 (and some will say that makes the 150 a better wedding lens -- it depends what else you will use it for). I realize you probably would not want to use two different cameras, but if you are on a tight budget, don't forget that a complete Rollei or a Mamiya C330 with a lens in the length you are missing can generally be had for a fraction of the cost of a single Hassy lens. Example, a used C330 with a 180 Super can be had for about $600-$700; how does that compare to the cost of the Hassy 180?

John :

If you are using a 60mm lens as your " standard " this is a common

practice and has some advantage and disadvantage .

If you are using a 50mm lens I would recommend a 80 mm lens

as your " standard " the 50 mm although well corrected for distortion is very hard to to get proper coverage with flash and will still distort .

As For wedding photography the ideal set of lens for me would

be a 60mm ,80mm, 120mm . the 120 mm an excellent lens enogh to take the distortion out of a head and shoulders portrait and macro

for ring ad invitation and short enough for those tight locations .

To reiterate you could get away with only the 60mm and 120mm

lens if you must but a 80mm chrome non T* lens you can pick up

for around 300.00 US .

You have 2 choices in the 120mm new CF f4 or the older C f5.6

the C f5.6 runs about 900.00 the Cf f4 runs about 2000.00 used

Your final option is instead of the 120mm a 150mm if you will

have the space at the wedding to set up with a 150mm and dont

mind using a proxar #1 for your ring shot and invitation you can get a chrome 150mm f4 for around 900.00 .

As with all issues it is only a matter of how much money you want to spend .

Good luck
