Sinar F standard swapability

Hello,

 

Right now I have a Sinar F1. The cheesy front standard is starting to get on my

nerves a little (when I first set up the camera, mostly). I am wondering if

there is any reason why I cannot use the rear standard as a front standard.

Knobs going to the other side of the camera seems like the only reason why not

to do it as far as I can see. I can deal with that for now. Then I would get a P

standard for the rear.

All of the Sinar parts will fit another camera, assuming, of course, you stay with 4X5, 8X10 or 5X7 EXCEPT for the 'A' model - the rail is different.

 

You can mix and match or replace (F or F1 front, P or P2 rear, or the other way around).

Thanks. I know I can go between F and P, however. My question was whether there is any reason I cannot turn the F1s rear standard bearer into its front standard bearer.

Yes you can. I had the same issue withe the F front standard and used the rear one as the "front" Other than the placement of the knobs - works fine

With a Sinar, if it fits, do it.

Now, I need a P standard. Any idea of a fair price for a P rear standard, and a fair price for a P2 rear standard? I know the differences between the two, and either one would work fine for me. Not the greatest selection in completed EBay listings to gauge prices, but there are one P front standard and P one rear standard bearer from this fellow in the Netherlands up right now.

The P standards come up from time to time on the *Bay site. I paid $180 for an older P standard (in very good condition)
