sumedha_kshirsagar
Hi, I am looking for a scanning service that will get my APS films scanned. How much would it cost? Is it per film or per frame? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thank you Sumedha
vrankin
You might Google "APS film scanning" and see who comes up. The format is literally disappearing. Dwayne's Photo in Kansas is still running services for many of the discontinued formats.
kelly_flanigan1
The old Canon FS2710 we bought came with an APS adapter. An alternative is to scan the APS yourself buy buying a used 35mm scanner with APS adapter.; scanning is slow so beware the time warp/sinkhole! APS films is still at Walmarts; and 110 at many Walmarts too neither is a discontined format yet. Off brand 110 is at some Walgreens too; plus APS; plus Kodak APS too. marc_rochkind
ScanCafe is outstanding if you're not in a rush, as they send the work to their office in Bangalore, India. The quality, include a few minutes spent on each image in Photoshop Elements for no extra charge, is superb, and their price is lower than anyone else's. Their tracking on their web site of every stage (on its way to India, in queue, being processed, being checked, online for your review, etc.) makes up for the possible concern about your negatives being sent so far away. Also, you only pay for what you want (with a minimum of paying for 50% of what you send). The only disadvantage is the time. Takes about 2 months before you see your images online, and another month to get the CD or DVD back. They might be able to speed that up a bit with time. If you think your negatives are too precious to send to ScanCafe, I would suggest that you not send them to anyone else either. Rather, scan them yourself and then sell the HW on eBay. APS negatives are the easiest to scan of any format because the adapters do the whole roll automatically. I scanned about 30 rolls myself, and the job went very quickly. ian_klimon
I have used ScanCafe for 35mm negs and slides and so far have been pleased. However, they no longer offer APS film scanning services. So you're out of luck there. PixMonix, ScanDigital and Britepix all offer APS services. I've tried Britepix and am now going to try another as I wasn't really impressed with the Britepix scans (although that could be solely due to it being APS film that is being scanned, so I don't really want to say that Britepix isn't any good until I have another company take a whack).
