Nicca 35MM-What version, how old, etc

I have a Nicca Camera Company, Ltd. 35MM Leica replica. It is made in Japan and

was purchased I think when my uncle was in the Army during the Korean War. It is

not listed as "occupied Japan." The number on top is no. 36962. Any help would

be beneficial.

You have done well, the Nicca is one of the better Leica copies.... well worth putting some film through it. BTW, what lens does it have on it?

I have a Canon f3.5 135MM, Canon f2.8 35MM and I think its a 50mm Nikkor. I am going to

It's an excellent copy of the Leica IIIa. I'd hold onto it and use it whenever possible.

According to H P Rajner's book 'Leica Copies', this is a Nicca IIIA or IIIB. If it has flash synchronisation sockets on the body it is the model IIIB.<br>

The serial numbers ran in the range 27xxx to 4xxxx "with large gaps" and production ran between April 1951 to June 1952 approx. About 4-5000 IIIAs were made and 3-4000 IIIBs. The standard lenses supplied are listed as Nikkor 5cm f2 or 5cm f1.5. Yours may well be a later model supplied with the improved 5cm f1.4. Either way if working well it is one of the better built Leica copies and should be a joy to use.<br>
