roman_thorn
Hi! Does anyone know if my d300 in commander mode will be able to communicate with my remote flash units if they are behind a softbox, or will i need a sync cord to fully operate them? I have a sb800 and 600.
Matt Laur
The infrared portion of the commanding pulses from your pop-up manage to get around pretty well, but inside a softbox (especially if they're behind the camera) could be pushing it. In my experience, the SB800 is more sensitive in such settings than the SB600 - so perhaps you can take that into account when you place them. Mark Salo
Can you rig a small tinfoil reflector?
lex_jenkins
In my experiments with multiple SB-800 units (rented, I only have one of my own), wireless operation can function even out of directly line of sight if the walls and ceilings are reflective (white or very light color). You might need to take some care when orienting multiple units for reliable wireless operation but it's possible, especially at reasonable distances. (I discovered that 100' is not a reasonable distance, but that's another story...)
