Flash cables

(#1)The cable on the left is a Stereo 1/4" to HH(household) cable. This is probably built to be used with HH extension cords and a HH to PC cord on the other end, as I don't know of any cameras with a 1/4" or HH sync connection. It may be home-made, looking at the lamp-cord type wire and the stereo 1/4" plug.

(#2)The cable in the middle is some type of PC to PC, the picture isn't close/detailed enough to see what sexes they are.

(#3)The cable on the right is a standard 1/4" to PC cord, used for many different systems.

Cable 1: household/lamp cable: a really great way to make lots of very long cable for a really cheap cost. It is dangerous and I recommend you throw it away. The risk of plugging it into a 110v circuit is statistically non-negligable. The danger is reduced by permanently gluing/taping the Male to the Female HH ends so only the quarter inch or PC-synch ends are available for the "plugger"

There's nothing dangerous about Cable 1. It's a female end, which only gets plugged into and cannot plug into an AC outlet. To ensure safety, www.strobist.com recommends making extension cables as female to female so they can't accidentally be plugged into an outlet, and using a male household plug to PC cord on each end to connect to the camera and flash. As for use, the phone plug end of either Cable 1 or Cable 3 goes into the sync jack of either a monolight or studio strobe powerpack. The PC end of Cable 3 goes into the PC socket on your camera. The household end of Cable 1 needsa a male household to male PC cord between it and the camera.
