scott_bennet
I have Photoshop CS2 (9.0.2) and recently purchased a Canon 40D. The 40D writes a raw file with the extension of CR2. It appears that CS2 does not read the CR2 file format. Is that true. If so, what do I do ? Thanks.
will_hammond
If I am not mistaken, the 40D came out AFTER Photoshop CS3. Therefore, it would not be supported in Photoshop CS2's Camera Raw 3.7. You will need to upgrade to Photoshop CS3 to take advantage of Camera Raw 4.2 and later which supports the Canon 40D. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3735 Will Adobe CTI Photoshop
michaelkh
Alternatively, you could use the latest version of the freely downloadable DNG Converter (from Adobe, on the Camera Raw site) to batch-convert your CR2 files into a DNG which the CS2 Camera Raw can read. ronald_moravec1
Upgrade to CS3 where the converter 4.3 will read it. 4.3 is not compatable with CS2. Adobe`s way to get more money. Convert to DNG format. Adobe provides it free. See if there is not some converter software supplied with your camera.
will_hammond
Picking up a copy of PS Elements 5 (for around $60US retail) will allow you to open using Camera Raw 4.3 as well.
colinsouthern
Take the DNG route - it offers several advantages: 1. The converter can transfer images from your card reader to your PC. 2. The converter can rename them for you as it transfers them (with several quite sophisticated naming options) 3. You can open any DNG type file in ANY version of Photoshop CS (ie CS, CS2, CS3) 4. You totally eliminate those pesky "sidecar files" Only way to go, in my opinion.
akajohndoe
CS2 will read the .cr2 extension files. At least from the 10D and 20D. I recently picked up a 40D and have no issues whatsoever, but I use the DNG converter and run the .dng into CS2.
