Does my Ricoh GX has the newest firmware installed?

Recommended Posts

Just bought the Ricoh GX camera. I want to be sure that I have the newest

version of the firmware installed.

When I visit the Ricoh.com homepage for firmware I find the instruction:

If "V 1.00" (or a lower number) is displayed in the CPU2 field, you will need

to update your camera's firmware to the most recent version.

The downloaded firmware is GX-107.exe which indicates that it is version 1.07

(I guess).

When checking the camera however, I find that the CPU2 field shows: V 1.09

indicating that my camera has firmware version 1.09 installed.

How can my camera have a newer version (higher number) of the firmware

installed than the version available on the Ricoh's homepage?

Should I just install the current GX-107.exe version and believe this is a

newer version than what is installed on my camera?

Thanks in advance.

/Henrik

Oh, I checked the Ricoh site again, and I see what you mean, if you are referring to the older Ricoh GX.

If I were you, I'd leave it alone at 1.09. Maybe since it's an older camera, Ricoh stopped posting firmware updates on their website? The 1.07 appears to be about 2.5 years old.

More info at dpreview, as Dean said. See this msg, for example:

You can also search that forum for other msgs about 1.09 for the GX.

Searching the internet I have found that there is a version 1.09 version available, however not for the GX version but for the GRD version. I suspect the former owner having installed the 1.09 firmware on the GX model.

I have posted the question on DPreview to see if that helps me getting closer to the question: Should I install the version 1.07 downloaded from the www.Ricoh.com or should I stick to the current version installed (ver. 1.09).

Reasons for upgrading/fixing the firmware:

I have problems with the TIF-files the camera produces. It can not be used by PhotoShop or Windows pictureviewer unless I import the TIF files into IrfanView and then save as TIF again. Also some strange grains in the TIF files occur, so I got this wild idea that updating/fixing the firmware.

Thanks

Henrik
