patrick_vyvey
Hi,Hope you will be able to help. We will be travelling to Sri Lanka mid-February and want to offer a small digital camera to a school we fund. Is it advisable to bring one from home (Europe) or to buy in Sri Lanka ? Any tips are welcome on a good address ! Thanks a lot,Patrickkwadri@telenet.behttp://www.sri-lanka-in-ons-hart.be
mohammed_abidally
Hi Patrick, This is a useful tool for school indeed and a wonderful gesture. I would advise you to bring it from Europe rather than buy in Sri Lanka. I am currently Director of Community Services at the Rotary Club of Colombo, the 2nd oldest Rotary Club in Asia founded in 1929, and we have a strong record of service especially after the Tsunami. Schools in Sri Lanka has been a specially strong area of focus for Rotary, please have a look at http://rotary-srilanka.org/index.html Regards Mohammed
patrick_vyvey
Thank you so much, Mohammed. I just wondered if prices would be better locally, or if a singalese manual would be required. I will visit your site soon. It would be great to meet when we are in Sri Lanka. We have an ambitious plan with the community where the school is situated. I would appreciate to continue this conversation directly by mail : kwadri@telenet.be Best regards, Patrick
User_503771
You might want to work out how the camera would be serviced if it ever needed adjustment or repair. The question would be: Would the camera brought from Europe be eligible for warranty repair as "residing" in Sri Lanka? Wonderful work you're doing! Keep it up! patrick_vyvey
Thanks Michael, appreciate your response. We are thinking plain and simple camera (read : cheap) but functional for the purpose of sending us pictures of the progress of the projects. Good remark though ! nilantha
Hi Patrick, Definitely appreciate your gift to Sri Lanka. Your help goes long way. I would highly recommend getting one from Europe. Sinhalese manual is not that critical and would not be available even if you buy in Sri Lanka. However, I suggest a camera that uses AA batteries (preferably rechargeables) would be ideal. We were there during tsunami and also last year.
