steve_frazier
I'm sure that this question has been asked but I can't find it in previously asked. How do you re-size a photo down to 3mb's for posting for critique? Thanks, Steve
freelance
There are many ways, depending on the quality you want to get. The simplest is with the Microsoft Picture Manager that comes with windows xt. The quality is very good.
beauh44
Hi Steve, 3mb is still a really big file! Maybe some people upload files that big but I sure wouldn't. Someone could make a really nice print from a 3mb file and it's unfortunately really easy for someone to lift an image from Photonet. Most people make them much smaller so they'll display quickly - ~50-60k. These look fine on a monitor but there's not enough info there to make a decent print. Anyway, in Photoshop, select Image>Image Size. In the dialog box select (check) the "Resample Image" box. I usually make the short side of the rectangular image somewhere around 600 pixels. Photoshop will fill in the long side for you. Click OK and it'll resize it. Be sure to save it under a different filename so you don't over-write the original. You can save it as a jpeg with File>Save As and retain the shot's metadata or if you use File>Save for Web that will (by default) strip out the shot's metadata. Good luck! joshroot
Use Microsoft Picture Manager's resize function and make the longest size 680 pixels or so. That will bring the size down plenty.
