Dan Deary
While watching on Public TV the 2007 Chicago Blues Fest, I remembered that I had some old Kodachromes(64) of several major artists from days of old. The day was a very hot and bright July event at the old Detroit fairgrounds. It was not well attended which allowed me to get up close to the performers. Celebrity photography is not my forte and concert photography was always dissapointing until this event. Being able to get close was a godsend. I was shooting with my favorite SLR, the Canon FTB with an FD 100mm 1:2.8 lens. Exposures were aprox 125 at f8. While not great photography, the images capture the moment and with the exception of John Hammond the other artists, Sippy, John Lee and Willie Dixon are gone. Another thought is about taking pictures at concerts. Can it be done anymore? Cameras seem to be forbidden at most events nowdays(Possible exception is Nashville.)<div></div> Dan Deary

chuck_foreman1
Wow, such legendary blues players! I'll bet the intimacy was incredible. I think the photos are quite good! I found it was hard to get to the stage and then harder to get good exposures for changing stage light or elevation problems when close to the stage. Those days you could often get a camera in by saying "no flash", then came the era of P&S with built-in flash and the strict "no-cameras" rule! With napster and other artist "rights" being violated it will not likely change. I think you need access and permission before you can get good concert material. skygzr
Willie Dixon's bass player has a Rick 4001. I played one of those for years. They growl like nothing else.

patrick j dempsey
chuck, and yet now almost every cellphone made has a camera built into it.... really makes you wonder whats more annoying to people, a quiet "slap, chunk" or the endless stream of thousands of digitally recorded "clickity squish"s? (that digital camera fake shutter sound always sounds like some poor small animal being squeezed to death to me)
gman
AWESOME! Wish I could have been there...at least I have some CD's. Great pictures, thanks for sharing them!
ross_lipman
The problem isn't flash photography but image ownership. High quality digital cameras and the internet have made it very easy for individuals to sell pictures of performers. And the performers don't see a dime. Hence the no camera rules. Nice photos.
