35-70mm f/4 and polarizer?

Just wondering if anyone has used a circular polarizer on this lens? My problem

is that the actual glass part moves in and out of the lens barrel, therefore I

cannot turn the polarizer to get the desired effect (the only way to turn it

would be to touch the glass of the filter). I can mount a UV filter no problem

as there is one position where the glass element is all the way at the end of

the lens barrel allowing just enough clearance to screw it on, but other than

that it is always within the lens barrel (during normal use). Does anyone know

the thread size for the very end of the lens? (it looks like it is threaded for

this purpose..) I have tried a 55mm and 58mm but no luck so far (the 52mm UV

filter fits normal as stated above). Here's a link to it on Canon's site

What you need to do is buy a dirt cheap 52mm filter knock the glass/plastic element out of it so you have a 52mm ring with threads on both ends one male one female. It will give you an extension so the polarizing filter ring can be reached.

OR at least that is what I've heard.
