dankapsner
I got a good deal on a 5cm LTM Summicron collapsible lens; need a lenshood but I don't want to spend a fortune on it. Also UV filter that will work with a lenshood. Anyone have any thoughts on a source for this? I also have an add in the classified section. john_gleason1
I got one of the heavystar Chinese copies of the Leica lens hood for my M-mount collapsible 50mm Summicron. Does the LTM version take the same sized hood? If so, the heavystar hood seems to work just fine, and comes with a snap-in cap. All for about $20US at that big auction place. mike_gillespie
Hey John what is the actual name of the "heavystar" lens hood?
john_gleason1
'what is the actual name of the "heavystar" lens hood?' Don't know that it has an actual name. I thought everyone called them "heavystar" hoods, 'cause I learned about them here under that name. The (original?) seller of these has "heavystar" as part of his ID over at that auction site, so that's where the name originates. Just do a search for "Leica lens hood" over there, and you'll turn up lots of examples.
frank uhlig
If the front diameter is 46 mm, the 46 mm vented tilted hood from heavystar will fit nicely, but make sure the lens takes a 46 mm hood. On the bay, just search for "vented hood 46mm".
dankapsner
I believe this older lens is 39mm.
john_gleason1
"I believe this older lens is 39mm." I'd still look into the "heavystar" knockoffs. The one I bought is marked "For Leica Summicron 39mm". And the threads on my collapsible 50mm 'Cron are definitely 39mm. (Serial No is 995xxx, if that matters.) Aoresteen
HeavyStar is a brand. Do an ebay search for "39mm vented" $20 will get you a nice shade. I have a 40.5mm version that I use with my 5cm 1.5 Sonnar with my Contax IIa.
astral
The Heavystar hoods (shipped from the USA) are excellent. The anonymous Ebay ones (shipped direct from China) I have are total junk - they screw directly in to the lens ok, but bind alarmingly when used on a Leitz filter. Heavystar ones are available straight and conical/tapered versions and stepping rings are available if needed .... AC
dan flanders
The "build quality" of the Heavystar lens hoods is superb and one version is available to fit the screw-in filter recess of the Summicron 50's, and the price can't be equaled anywhere that I know of. I would prefer a clip-on or push-on, but this one is excellent for most purposes. I use mine with a SOOGZ for my older A36 lenses and it has helped tame the flare in many instances. I would recommend E39 filters directly on the lens and the hood screwed into the filter. You will have no issue with 59mm lenses and it will also usually work with the 35's if you do NOT attempt to stack filters!
adrian bastin
If you can stand the bulk of the barn-door Summicron hood when open, it's very easy to carry when folded. It slips past a filter to clip on to the lens, so it's the same if a filter's in place or not. It's not expensive and is the right one for the LTM viewfinder, visible as just a thin line across the field of view. Very effective so worth having anyway, for when you want more shading. francois_gaboury
I also got one from Heavystar. Works great with my 50 summicron collapsible (1955) + Leitz UV filter. Comes with the cap and is very well made... and is about $16...so order one! the only thing is that they print "For Leica summicron 39mm" on it but at that price I can live with it. 02Pete
For what it's worth, I ordered and paid for one of the vented lens shades from an overseas source, it was never delivered, and I was never able to get the issue resolved. On that basis, I would suggest purchasing one from a dealer in the US.
dankapsner
I ended up buying a vented aluminum non-Leica hood from a dealer in Florida. Thanks for your suggestions!
