todd_torfin
I am looking at getting a remote for my 40D and I was curious what remote have people had good success with the wired or the remote, which works, functions better? I am not sure if the wireless works with a 40D but any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
gaetano catelli
i've always had problems with wired. getting wireless was one of the best things i ever did, because it is way more flexible than any wired setup (even if you can get one to work reliably).
highly recommended: http://www.adorama.com/ZVR2SRC.html?searchinfo=twin1&item_no=
todd_torfin
Where on the camera does this attach to? The Adorama website states that it attaches to the camera's cable release socket and Sender. Do you need an adaptor to make this work or can someone tell me where on the 40D this would attach? gaetano catelli
check the user's manual. there should be a rubberized "door" on the right side (as you face the camera's lens). inside are various terminals. there will be only one with a 3-pronged female socket. m3rdpwr
For my 20D, I bought an ebay wired remote for around $12 shipped I think. It works well, unless I turn the camera sideways on the tripod. The cable tends to work its way loose as it doesn't screw in like Canon's. I just order a wireless shutter remote on ebay for around $12 plus shipping. It's has 16 channels and looks very simple. I should have it soon to try it out... -Mario
ferensen
Do an Ebay search on "canon wireless remote." The $20 version from Hong Kong works perfectly for me.
m3rdpwr
Bill, this is the one I ordered. Is it the same you purchased? Thanks! -Mario http://cgi.ebay.com/Phottix-Wireless-Remote-Set-C3-for-Canon-20D-30D-40D-5D_W0QQitemZ200177151445QQihZ010QQcategoryZ43443QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

mrossi
Wow, tough call, that one from Hong Kong or the dramatically overpriced Canon one from my shop... Hmmm...
m3rdpwr
I'll tell ya', when I won my wired one from Hong Kong, I received it about a week after I won the bid. That's why I ordered the wireless one from the same ebay seller... -Mario
colinsouthern
If you consider the TC-80N3 you'll also get a got of extra features when it come to automation & unattended control.
stephen_bay
Have the wired remote. Works fine but I worry about accidently bending the pins on my camera. With a wireless, I'd worry about having a spare set of batteries...
willhl
Do you do long exposure bulb photography (more than 30 sec)? If you do then you will want a wired remote that can lock the button down. I don't know if this is possible with wireless ones if it is you might still have battery issues with really long exposures (30 min- 2 hours) I'm on my second cheap eBay wireed one (I guess the first got too many knocks) but for now they are still cheaper than one canon.
