Need some help on finding the right lens plate to mount on the Arca-Swiss Quick

release w/Arca-Swiss Ballhead B1. Any one using this lens on this type of

support?

Kirk Quick Release Lens Plates for

LP-6 but no tech. info (dimensions), just a picture showing 2 screws. ($55.00). Looking at the picture it seems to be 6" to 7" long

Here is my dilemna. Which one to pick? My Canon FD 500mm F4.5L lens has a tripod collar which base is 2.5" long.

My question is: Should the plate be longer than 2.5". Is longer better?

Called today Wimberley and Really Right Stuff. They couldn't tell me exactely which one I need for my lens. I couldn't get in hold with Kirk.

You need a plate that will align with both screws on the 500's tripod mount (you cannot rely on only one screw).

The length of the plate in itself is not particularly important. A little bit more may help to balance the lens on the tripod; however, I made mine to the exact length of the mount and it allows for enough adjustement to balance it whether with the hood, with the T90 or with the F1N.

Thank you Jean-Bernard. I just ordered the MPR-1 from Really Right

Stuff. It is 6" long (15.2 centimeters), so, as you said, I'll have enough room to balance the lens. You are right, the lens need to be tightened with two screws.

I prefred the Really Right Stuff's plate as it is designed specifically for the Canon EF 500mm F4.5Llens which is the same lens as the FD I have (just EOS).
