matt_whitaker
I have recently acquired a used Bogen 3057 tripod head, and while sturdy, it has about 1/8" play in it at the first joint. I've tightened all the handles as much as possible but it still allows my 4x5 to wobble back and forth slightly. Is it possible to tighten this head more than it is, by disassembling it maybe? Or should I start looking for another one since this one has obviously been put through some stress already?
steven nelson
Are you sure it is well connected to the tripod? I have a slightly different Bogen pan/tilt head on a Bogen 3021 tripod. Under the plate on the tripod where the head is mounted, there are three screws. When these screws are tightened, they drive into the base of the head and keep it from moving side to side. When these screws are loose, I can feel some play as you describe.
peter_galea
If you carefully pry off the round axis tags with the zero position and degrees on them you will find bolts that will allow you to tighten these joints sufficiently. You can then glue the axis tags back on.
matt_whitaker
That was exactly what I needed to do Peter. I wasn't aware that the tags came off. Thanks.
