fmueller
I am thinking about adding an ST-E2 wireless transmitter to my gear, and am wondering how battery hungry these things are. Is it worth getting rechargeable 2CR5s and a matching charger, which seem to run around $20-$30? Also, has anybody else noticed that Adorama sells the ST-E2 on their own site for $209.95 plus $6.95 shipping (to Ohio) - a total of $216.90, while via Amazon, but also from Adorama, you can have the very same item for $194.95 plus $5.50 for shipping - a total of $200.45. I am always happy to save $16 by just clicking on another link, but this doesn't seem to make sense to me.
todd_masters
It is moderately hungry, but that depends on how much you use it. When I used it fairly regularly it lasted about 2 months. Being a lithium battery going green with rechargeable is never a bad idea. Since I have changed the battery and have used it occasionally, it has been fine the last three months and am actually getting ready to sell it via ebay with some other stuff. Feel free to send me a note and I will send the nearly brand new unit with a fresh battery for cheaper than what you posted ;) Make an offer! todd@yourimagemasters.com

fourfa
I recall seeing some postings that the rechargeable 2CR5s didn't have enough voltage to actually run the ST-E2. best to google that.
colinsouthern
They're supposed to have a battery life of 1500 transmissions, but in my experience this is a bit "overly optimistic". They actually send via a small flash tube covered with a filter (not leds as many people think) - which makes them a little hungry.
PuppyDigs
I used my ST-E2 regularly for small product shoots and first 2CR5 mine lasted for years. Besides the batteries are cheap if you order the bulk ones off ebay or B&H. Don't waste your time with the rechargeable 2CR5. It won't even fire up the unit. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
savas_kyprianides
My 2CR5 hasn't lost any juice yet.
john_cottone
I use the St-e2 professionally in an outdoor portrait studio inviroment. I photograph 5 HS seniors a day. I use the NIMH 2cr5 from http://thomasdistributing.com It needs a charge once every 20 sessions. Look at it his way purchase three 2cr5 lithiums or get a rechargeable that will last 100x the life for the same cost. If you do order from Thomas distributing do not order the model off the website. It does not supply the proper voltage. Call them and explain you need the 2cr5 that plugs directly in the wall and has a white battery with graphics. This one supplies the proper output but is not on the website. Send me an e-mail and I'll send you a PDF of my St-e2 outdoor setup. It works perfectly! jcottone@starband.net
