karen barnes
I am shooing my first set of engagement photos this weekend, and it appears it is going to rain during the scheduled shoot time. The couple would like to shoot anyway, and do some rainy umbrella shots.I'm wondering what color of umbrella to tell them to bring, as I don't want anything that will cast an unusual light on them, but am wondering if black would darken their faces too much.Any ideas? We will be on a cliff over a beach area, and there won't be buildings, so overhangs are not going to work. (I'm not even sure if we will be able to see the beach, due to fog, but we'll make it work somehow.)
picturesque
White, or line the underside with white. If you do the latter, any color on top that matches them or acts as a bright accent is fine. I'd stay away from prints though.
tom_luongo1
What's wrong with an unusual light? And why limit yourself to a single color? Something with a red cast could warm the photos a bit. And some sort of large reflector will help too. It won't be as effective as on a sunny day but it will still be useful. A clear vinyl umbrella is another possibility. buffdr_raz1
I would stay with solid colors as it blends and matches better IMO. But this ALL depends on what color they will be wearing. v/r Buffdr
tim_schultz1
white as it will act like a large softbox
Jerry_
Ocean breeze or strong wind, the second one will render a umbrella a liability in trying to shoot images. And without a Nikonos body, I'd not want to be the one to dodge H2O while holding a camera-flash set-up in a steady rain. There should be a way to reschedule the shoot. kellyka
What are the colors or the wedding? I would say to coordinate...
karen barnes
They're planning on wearing black shirts and jeans. I'm trying to convince them to re-schedule for sunset. The forecast does say "Few showers", so it may be light. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for your help!
karen barnes
Oh, in reading through some of the responses, I think I may not have been very clear in my original post. I was referring to the umbrella they will be holding over themselves, not the one I will be using for the strobe.
buffdr_raz1
"Few showers" might give you a nice rainbow. :) v/r Buffdr
zofia
Colorful umbrellas are fine, just make sure they are pointed away from their faces, behind their heads. Or convert to b/w.
surfidaho
Better bring one for yourself anyway. "Weather sealed" is a relative term.
karen barnes
I was able to get them to re-schedule for this evening, given that it was supposed to rain all night, leaving the area muddy and the sky blown out and white. Whew. Thanks for your help.
