peter_langfelder
What software are you using? Are you using multiscanning? This seems almost like the scanner scanned some lines on the film twice (look at the word Sell on th extreme right - the letters ll show the same pattern as the child's nose). I'd get stuff like that with an older version of Vuescan and my Minolta 5400 when using multipass scanning. It may very well be a software glitch, although it also may be some skipping in hardware... alex_fan1
It was done by Nikon Scan 4.0 with one single pass.
william_john_smith1
Banding with the 8000 is a known problem. Some experts have attributed the problem to miscalibration of the CCD sensor strips, seemingly a software problem, yet the LS-9000 does not have the banding problem. The fix for this problem is to use the SuperFine option, which results in scans taking 3 times longer.

The LS-9000 uses improved hardware. Scans with the LS-8000 will take longer only using one CCD in the superfine mode, but that's the price for quality. alex_fan1
But is the "pattern" on the attach file known as the famous "Banding" problem or something else ?
roger_smith4
Alex, try testing it using superfine and normal mode and post the results. Consider sending to Nikon as well to comment on.
alex_fan1
Roger, Thx, I tried with the Superfine mode and don't have such problem. I called Nikon support center, they said it may cause by dirt components. So I will send them to have a cleaning.
roger_smith4
If they'll clean it for free that's a good deal. Be sure to store the scanner in a bag (seal one end with a rubber band) when you get it back to reduce future dust/dirt problems. However I think it's probably the banding if superfine fixed the problem.
alex_fan1
But there is no free lunch.
