Howtek and MacPro?

Recommended Posts

I am mildly considering getting a Howtek hi Resolve Grand drum scanner for all the reasons one would.

As it is SCI interface, am I relegated to computers that use this interface only? And what about the whole

software versus OS thing?

Newbie questions perhaps, but alas...

There's plenty on the Howtek line of drum scanners in the archives of the yahoo group ScanHi-End. There is also a yahoo group that is devoted exclusively to Howtek/Aztek scanners, but I don't know the name of it. You can probably find out through the Aztek website.

And of course you could always just call Aztek. They sell parts and service the scanners and can tell you all about them I'm sure.

For the mac pro to connect to a SCSI scanner you'll need a rather expensive PCI-X SCSI controller. I know because had the same problem with my new mac pro and Polaroid 45 Ultra.

This little dohickey however, worked a treat and my mac pro is now scanning just fine with vuescan and the polaroid -

It may not work for all scanners - but it's certainly worth a look as opposed to the $500 scsi card...
