umapathy
SB24 used to be my one and only speed light once, recently i bought a SB800, it is brilliant. i tried using it as a slave and my D80's popup flash as master, and the combination is doing really well. is there any way that i include my old SB24 also into this system as a slave. or can i attach it to my camera's shoe so that SB24 works as my master and SB800 as slave. or just sell it off... nancy s.
You can use your SB 24 as a slave or as a master. I am assuming you are using optical triggers for the slave unit and this is on a stand? The nice thing about the SB 24 on the hot shoe is you can use this as your fill light and the SB800 as your key light and give some nice dimensional lighting to your subjects. frank_skomial
I believe you are using D80 as a commander, and SB-600 as a remote in the CLS system, therefore SB24 cannot be used neither as a slave nor as a master in this system. You can use all flashes in Manual mode, if you have a trigger for remote SB24, but you will have to determine exposure, either by experimentation or use of a flash meter. You can use SB24 in the camera shoe flash but not in any iTTL mode, and SB800 in SU-4 mode as a manual remote, but again you may have to determine exposure yourself. Read your camera manual to see what SB24 flash modes are available when the flash is in the camera hot shoe. SB24 is basically not compatible with your camera or the Nikon CLS/iTTL. umapathy
Thanks Nancy and Frank, Frank, i tried the way you had suggested (i mean 24 in hot shoe and 800 as remote) and it works perfectly, and i am happy that i can retain my old SB24.
