what about this lens ? what about the VR version for $50 more .

i can buy the G without VR for about $250 .

The VR is worth the money. You will be amazed at the number of keepers you will have when you take pictures.

VR has better optics and VR helps to stabilize the image. I love mine for a lightweight walk around lens. Lots of plastic construction, buy you get a five year warrantee if you send the card in fast.

 

For $1500 you can have the best 70/200 2.8 VR. Better built and faster and heavier/larger. If you make outside pics for from a tripod, you will be happy with the $250 one

I have owned both the non-VR and the VR version. You will be a lot happier with the VR version.

Slow, poorly built, pretty good optics. VR's worth the extra cost.
