robert_royem
I have downloaded stuffit and still can't get the sit file to open up properly. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for your input. Robert
alex_ferraris
Robert, can you post the address of the exact file you've downloaded? I have the same setup as yours so I can see what happens Alex
robert_royem
Alex, Here's the address: http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nikonusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=8323&p_sid=DDVidTKi&p_lva=61# Thanks for your help.
alex_ferraris
No problem with me: double clicking on the file opens Stuffit that expand it to a folder named NS4, with the installer in it. If you do not see the the folder try a search with Spotlight. Alex
robert_royem
Alex, Is your Mac Intel-based? I am just not having any success opening the sit file of the nikon scan file. It looks like stuffit is installed properly. I have another G5 Imac on OS 10.3.9 that downloaded the nikon scan just fine, but not on this one. Thanks for trying though. davebecker
I've encountered the same issue recently and posted a comment relating to Nikon's non-existant support and failure to update and maintain useable software. I have not been able to install Nikon Scan 4 on either my Mac Pro Laptop or desktop - both Intel machines. I've decided to sell my Nikon Coolscan 4000ED because of this issue. It's hard to believe that Nikon is still selling both the 5000 and 9000 scanners with out bothering to update or rewrite the software package. Regards, Dave
robert_royem
Wow, thanks for letting me know about that. It's hard to believe that Nikon won't update their software for new macs. That's a big part of the market they're ignoring. maybe they'll get it worked out soon. Are there any other Intel mac owners with similar stories? Anyone with success stories? robert chabot
I have not been able to install the latest version of Nikon Scan 4 on my Mac Pro tower until I deleted the old NS 4 preference file. Now all is ok. My scanner is Coolscann 4000.
robert_royem
I don't have any nikon software on this computer. BTW, my scanner is 8000.
alex_ferraris
Robert I'm on Intel (PBPro 17'). I think that we are also talking about two different problems: 1) not being able to unstuff the .sit and 2) not being able to install/update the driver. For the second problem I can't say anything as I do not have any Nikon Scanner, but I can confirm to be able to download and unstuff the .sit Alex
gerard_kopcsay
I have a new MacBook Pro that is about a month old, and I installed NS4 when I first got it without any problems. I have used an LS-4000 for several years, and it works fine when connected to the MacBook Pro. I mostly use Vuescan, but it needs the drivers from the NS4 install. robert_royem
Alex and Gerard, Did you guys have to download Stuffit Expander software to open the .sit file from Nikon? I just downloaded stuffit the other day and maybe it's not working properly. I guess macs don't come with anything similar to stuffit. Thanks for your input. gerard_kopcsay
Yes, I had previously installed stuffit expander before downloading and installing NS4. If I recall correctly, I downloaded NS4.sit to the desktop, and later double clicked on it and it created a folder with the installer.
robert_royem
Thanks. And just one more question: which browser did you download the Nikon .sit with? Safari?
nickwhite
Have you downloaded the latest Stuffit Expander? (V11.0.02). I recently had a similar problem opening a .bin file and that did the trick (G5 1.6/10.4.10), the previous Stuffit version would not open the file!.
