What kind of paint do they use on there lenses and bodies?

Not sure what kind of paint it is, but I'd say that the ones on the consumer lenses are probably regular stuff, but the L lenses have very durable paint.....and in particular the white L lenses. As I have worked in laboratories with ultracentrifuges, DNA sequencers, microscopes, mass spectrometers etc...costing hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions, they seem to use the same kind of paint as the white L lenses. At least the texture seems the same, and the durability is incredible.....both on the lenses and also the laboratoy equipment. So, regardless of what kind of paint is used, the L-lens paints are surely built to withstand a lot of beating.

My experience is that it isn't all that durable. Seems to chip rather easily in normal use.

That's one of the reasons the neoprene covers for the superteles are so popular: they help

keep the paint job from getting dinged up.
