james_gallagher2
What type of camera and lens did you use? Also, how was the film processed?

jon_shiu
Hi, I believe the shutter moves vertically on that camera. So, I don't think it is a shutter problem. Could it be some kind of processing problem? Jon
golden
vertically? not sure about that.
chris_waller
I'm also inclined to think it is a processing problem.
golden
i hope thats what it is. i was looking at some of the other negatives on that roll and some of them dont have it
charles.
I think all mamiya 645 cameras have a horizontal-travel shutter (my 645 pro certainly does). If this is not on all or nearly all of the other frames then it is likely not a processing problem.
paul ron
Your problem looks like a frame wrinkle. Perhaps the film was not flat at that point due to film sitting in the camera for a length of time. Also, I thought your camera had leaf shutters built in the lens? The more you say, the less people listen.
golden
there are some leaf shutter lenses for the 645 series though, unfortunalty all five of mine work off the focal plane shutter. hmm well im gonna shoot another roll through it today and see what happens, thanks guys for the feedback
jon_shiu
Hi, I believe all the Mamiya 645 cameras have vertically travelling shutters, (not sure why some think they are horizontally traveling?) Jon
golden
honestly i dont know, i always thought they were horizontal, if they are indeed verticle, then that for sure is not a shutter problem.
golden
my shutter curtain moves horizontal i just checked it.
tarashnat
This type of effect can be caused by internal reflections. Off-axis light can bounce around inside the camera and cast the shadow off some internal feature if you have a bright light source striking off a surface or just outside of the field of view. I had a similar line caused by the moon when taking a long astrophoto. Sometimes a bright sun will reflect off the inside surface of a hard lens shade or hit the front element obliquely when there is no shade. golden
come to think of it, i also had something similer happen to me back in the spring on my view camera, i was using a 6x9 roll back, in this image the subject was in very bright sunlight, maybe that was it. thanks again for all the feedback
jon_shiu
Hi, yes I was mistaken about the shutter being vertical on the 645PRO. (I hava a 645AF and 645E and they have different, vertical shutters.) Jon
