nawrock
I need to get some more flashes to use for off camera flash. Would I be able to use Nikon sb-28 or sb-50's? I was also told about a sunpak and vivitar flashes that are inexpensive and good. Sb-600 and 300 are out of my price range. There are tons of sb-28 and 50 on ebay, would those be adequate? Thanks! scottconners
If you're using them with PW's, i.e. in full manual, you can use pretty much any flash you like. Just make sure it has enough adjustability.
marshall
Any manual-control flash with a PC-socket. Even without the PC socket, you can attach some kind of trigger to the hot shoe. Some folks really like the Vivitar 285.
marshall
Hm. The Vivitars are written up very well on a small-flash lighting blog that for some reason photo.net won't let me put in a post. I wonder why one can reference them?
brandon.r.foster
If you are going to go for one, I would go for the SB-28's. The 285HV's are clunky, and take some time to adjust in a pinch. However, they do produce a heck of a lot of light when they are on full power... I use mine only with my soft box. Marshall, would you be speaking of s t r o b i s t? I have had the same problem. Seriously though, on that very same blog the SB-28 is touted as better still.
Hope that this helps,
Brandon.
davidlong
SB-26's are also nice. The built-in optical slave is useful in various situations. I wonder what DH did to tick off the gods...
brandon.r.foster
I have no idea, but my first guess would have something to do with his outright statement, "You don't need no stinkin' Modeling Lights...". If not this, then I would think that his general scorn of studio lights in general would have something to do with it...
