images_in_light_north_west
If these have not been processed with noise software 3200 looks useable
keith reeder
Hi Ross, they're straight off the camera with no in-camera NR applied; and they're not "usable", they're *amazing* for a prosumer camera at ISO 3200..!
mark u
Images 26 and 27 are at 3200 for those wanting to peek.

doug_landrum
I have been really pleased with the high ISO noise performance of my 20D. My only question about the 40D was whether the high ISO noise performance would be as good. Question answered, the 40D is better. I want one. Maybe I will not eventually migrate to a full frame camera after all. The EF-S 10-20 is looking very appealing.
dave_holland
Does anybody know if this improved ISO noise is from a better sensor, or from in-camera processing of the result? I can use Noise Ninja in computer, but if the effect is direct off the sensor then it's even better. Dave
mars c
Image number 5 was shot , using the new canon efs 18-55 kitlens with IS, for those who like a glimps to the new kitlens' image.
eric_lawson1
I looked at the exif because I just couldn't believe it wasn't an error. Sure enough 3200! Absolutely unbelievable. I want to move to full frame when the 5D gets updated but was very concerned because all the rumors indicate it will have a 16mp sensor. I was concerned about it loosing the high iso status it has but it might be alright after all if it indeed gets the bump to 16mp if it follows this trend. I wonder if it is the Digic III doing this. I have an SD-850 with the Digic III chip and it is the best little point & shoot I have ever seen. haven't used the Canon G series though.
anesh
Now to all those people touting the Nikon D300 I'd like to see how it compares the D40 in the "noise" category.
