obi-wan-yj
I posted a request for photography magazine recommendations over in the Education forum, but since that's a very low traffic forum, I figured I'd post a pointer to it here in case any of you have opinions. http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00MI9t

HenryUK
I'd recommend EOS Magazine http://www.eos-magazine.com/ It's notionally independent of Canon and has reviews, technical info and information about photographers and their photos. terry_smith2
Chasseur d'Images. Even if you don't read French, it's still very interesting and many of the images displayed are stunning. Search that name or else Editions Jibena and you'll find their site.

jerry_douglas
I have found LensWork to be a favorite read. More of a look at the ideas and philisophical approaches to image making than craft and techniques. Good discussion... wonderful images.
alan_myers
Ben, In part it depends on where you are and what you like to shoot. I subscribe to Outdoor Photography, Nature Photographer and Natures Best. I often pick up a copies of Shutterbug and Popular Photography.
daniel_smith6
Given that you are looking at the kids magazine subscription drive you are not in the running for any of the better publications. No Lens Work, no View Camera, no B&W magazine. The usual assorted junkrags of Outdoor Photographer, Modern(or Popular... whichever it is that is still being printed now)Photography, Shutterbug and a few others. You are apparently at the stage where technical details are important to you. With luck you will get over that soon and work more towards 'how it looks' and not 'what it is' or 'how it was made'. Any camera can take excellent work and the only way to know what that type of work entails is to see it. Lots of it on a regular basis. Thus Lens Work, a magazine of ideas and inspiration. View Camera isn't great but does inspire and exposes you to more serious photographers in large format than the normal consumer rags out there. B&W photography, either the US version of images or the British version of information are both worth looking at. Good luck with your search. As you go through the pop/OP type of magazines you will soon start to see they are mainly the same dozen or so articles re-worked over a 2-3 year period along with a ton of advertising/advertorials geared to selling you new gear and persuading you that you can't do good work without constantly buying something new. They are about gear sales and not about excellence in images. Best of luck and subscribe to whatever he is selling to keep peace but know you need to go much further for fine photography in print.
