savagesax
I still shoot with mostly 1 and 2gb sandisk cards for fear that a card will die and I've had 2 that died at weddings. I recently discovered a product called a Wolverine 7000. It is a hard drive that works on batteries and AC. What I like about it is it is portable, about the size of a large cell phone. At a wedding or out in the woods, doing events, when your card is filled you upload the card to the wolverine 7000 hard drive with 1 click of only one button. If you get no messages of errors you know your card is safe and you have a backup hard drive. I got the 60gb one for $100. I also got the extra battery kit for $10, which will upload 20 gbs to the wolverine before you need to change the AA batteries. It also has an AC cord so you don't need batteries, but I like putting the wolverine on my belt and uploading as I work, making sure everything on the cards are perfect. It comes with a belt pouch! What I like about it is if you are out shooting and the card for some reason is defective you have a good chance to recapture most or all of the images. The hard drive will tell you there are corrupted images. Once the wedding is over, well forget about it, you are in a heep of trouble. Look out for lawsuits and angry brides. Just wanted to pass this on to fellow photographers. By the way it hooks right to your belt so you can keep shooting. I really like the idea of having a hard drive compact flash cards as back ups. The wolverine simply plugs into your USB port of your computer. Some of you probably already know about this. I was amazed that it weighed about 5 ounces. Well hope every wedding photographer takes a good look at this as it could save your wedding and at best a lawsuit. http://www.wolverinedata.com/index.php/site/quicklinks/C15/ Best regards, Bob

gregstuckeyaus
Hey Bob Thanks for that. I've been toying with the idea of backing up on the day for a while now but haven't found the right solution. How long does your 2 Gb card take to down load to the device?
savagesax
not long, just a few minutes.
zackojones
I have been looking into these as well and some of the ones I have seen said they could transfer 1 gig card in 5 minutes or less which seems kind of slow to me.
jimstrutz
Some are definitely faster than others. Check around.
toddcwilson
I've been looking at these as well. I like the AA idea. Here is one that Epson makes, has it's own proprietary rechargeable battery though. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?oid=63061068&ref=r0302EFb3T&s_kwcid=epson%20p-5000|622396800&gclid=CNGC8qe93I0CFQMngAody2O4Zw

denis_zaslavets
I have Smartdisk, it work great. I like the feature that I can view photos, to check if they are not corrupted.
